Emerging designers – Behind the canvas with Lilla Cséfalvay

Lilla Cséfalvay - Vanitas Collection on Adoreness.com

I ‘ve first set my eyes on these rich texture synergies and color effects while browsing for noteworthy emerging designers as part of my involvement at Vancouver Fashion Week. I’ve landed on a Behance profile that hosted precious design work – both graphic, as well as fashion design made by a young and talented Hungarian designer, Lilla Cséfalvay.

Lilla experimented with a technique in which she influences structure and shape while playing with shadows and adding 3D deepness to garments. All is done by using lots of fabric bands and sewing them very closely together. The effects are very artistic, a truly multidimensional painting.

This is how the Bauhaus collection came to life. The concept was later applied onto Lilla’s next inspiration: the richness of the Flemish still-life paintings. Color became a big component of the collection adding even more to the painting-like dresses. Lilla Cséfalvay - Vanitas Collection closeup

VANITAS

“This collection is based on Flemish still life paintings and their “vanitas” symbols. It took loads of fabric and long weeks of sewing to create these pieces, but I had some great help. I was happy when I got an invitation for Vancouver Fashion Week, and the show was on my birthday!

WHAT IS INNOVATION

“I think innovation comes from trying to think outside of the box and redefining function. At this collection I developed a special technique of sewing ripped textile bands tightly next to each other. I used this technique to ‘paint clothes’ with different colors and types of fabric. Each piece of fabric is a brushstroke.”

We couldn’t help ourselves and took one of the dresses from Lilla’s Vanitas Collection out for a little experiment. Out of a still-life painting, we changed the setting into one in full autumn bloom. The result was an equally vivid conceptualization. The earth-tones and forest canvas managed to highlight the Vanitas layers and blend them in a landscape painting too.

We were not surprised.

The shapes and design are STATEMENT, yet so VERSATILE.Lilla Cséfalvay - Vanitas Collection on Adoreness.com

 IT’S A matter OF MUSES.

I always search for ideas and icons in fields such as literature, music, or fine arts…” I would like to see my collection on people whom I respect or find interesting for some reason. My works are more ideas than practical clothing, so I would be happy about anyone who understands their message. Lilla Cséfalvay - Vanitas Collection on Adoreness.com

Elegant Hairstyles – Just let them stare

Versace F/W 2013-2014 hairstyles

Versace F/W 2013-2014

We love how every fall season becomes so much more thrilling when it comes to beauty and elegant hairstyles, compared to the effortless vibe of all the summer looks.

Among the best fall hair trends, we cannot help praising Versace’s sophisticated high chignon, which we think is the perfect match for any cocktail attire and you can always dress it down with a blazer for work or a jumpsuit for your casual looks.

A twist on braids

Braided hair also becomes more glamorous in the fall season. Chanel, Badgley Mischka or Marchesa enchant us with a fresh remake of the braided updo.

Fluffy buns

Volume seems to be the buzz word this season and we noticed that this also applies for updos. This style is rather retro, but still great for any evening look.

Pick a side

Maybe the simplest hairstyle of the season is combing your hair on a side and styling the other side to the back. We’re loving the looks at Chloe and Alexandre Herchcovitch.

Wraped in Tartan: Plaid items that you should wear

Checks and tartan surely represent that fall essential that does not grow old. Although they are very popular these past 2 seasons, plaid items have always been around in one form or the other, envisioning conservative preppy uniforms, punk stars or those vintage teacher jackets.

This season, however, it’s all about re-inventing those plaid pieces and mixing them with leather, jeans or biker boots for edgy, yet polished looks. You might already own a piece or two, a jacket or a shirt which you can style up,  if not, don’t worry, plaid is everywhere this season. The tartan dress has also been through a make-over this season. Although most plaid dresses still have thicker, more structured materials, there are also other silky and flowing designs that you can target this season, especially in a maxi-length – which is rather new for tartan styles. With regards to all the other lengths, short skirts and dresses are of course a classic style, but we are really in owe of pencil skirts and how well they look with patent ankle boots. In fact tartan is a perfect match for patent leather.

Black and white shoes hit Paris Fashion Week

The black and white cocktail is present on the streets at Paris Fashion Week SS14, in the form of quirky shoes that look like brogues, ankle boots or strap sandals. The style of the summer gets an autumnal reinterpretation when paired with Miroslava’s black leather trench, or Anna’s hat look. The black and white shoes look wonderful with men’s jeans and blazer, but also in tartan as the ladies below are living proof of it.

Enjoy our black and white selection.

They’re one of our favorite styles this year!
